With over a billion users, YouTube is a platform where video content can be promoted quite easily. The platform has a ton of audience and quite several YouTubers are generating millions of dollars from just creating video content.
However, a lot of beginners find it difficult to produce regular YouTube content. Reasons could range from lack of equipment, skills, ideas, money, or time.
But what if there was a way you could start generating revenue from your channel in a short time without actually making videos.
There’s a way out!
This post will reveal a step by step guide to making money on YouTube without actually making videos.
Let’s dive in.
How To Make Money On YouTube Without Actually Making Videos (Using A Cat Channel)
Figure Out Your Niche And Research
Your niche Is the particular area you want to specialize in. For this guide, we’ll be using the cat niche.
Since our channel is in the cat niche, you need to check out three or more special cat YouTube channels to explore keywords.
Type in specific keywords like cute cats, cats sleeping, and so on to get additional channels and keywords. Ensure that you properly search for keywords that people are searching for on YouTube.
I created a FREE YouTube checklist to help out as well – https://shellyhopkins.com/100k-youtube
Search For Videos To Compile
This is an essential step in this process. You need to search for YouTube channels in the cat niche with a lot of subscribers.
Check out their videos and sort them by the most popular ones. This would let you see what cat videos are popular on YouTube so you can do more of what’s working.
For example, let’s assume you find a cat video of three minutes and fifty-seven seconds. You can just change and edit it a little so you can own it. Look for other similar videos, join them, and make a compilation.
Remake The Video
The videos you’ll use for your YouTube channel can be gotten by cutting and joining small parts from other original videos and mixing them and even adding pictures too.
After you’ve got the original video or pictures to use, you need to use an editing tool to compile the small video clips and pictures together.
While doing this, remember that you can only use 13 seconds of an original video. But you can mix video clips with pictures together.
Also, you could change some of the features of the video. For instance, you can pick out two or three cat videos.
There are various platforms you could use to get video clips and pictures for your compilation videos such as Pixabay, Pixels, and Envatoelemts.
You can use Pixabay for free to get images for compilation. Pexels is also free to get footage and clips. You can also use Envato Elements but it is quite expensive and you have to pay $17 per month to use it.
All three options can be used but you need to remember the 13-second rule. Plus, you can either add music or a voice-over.
Add Music
If you want to add music again, there are several platforms you can go to and get free music such as Envato Elements or YouTube music.
To use YouTube music, go into the corner in your YouTube studio, and then on the left-hand side of your computer, click on the audio library.
In the audio library, you’ll find all kinds of music there and it’s all free. You can choose to download it and use it for your videos.
YouTube has no issue with its users using content from this audio library as long as you agree with the terms and conditions of the YouTube audio library.
When you get free music from the YouTube audio library, you can add it to your video.
Now, what if you choose to have a voiceover for your video?
Some YouTubers add voice-overs to their videos and some of them would use only music. If you’d love to have a voiceover for your videos, You can record it yourself or outsource it to freelancers.
If you choose to do it yourself, you can make use of your phone and a decent microphone that could cost you around $59. While recording your voice overs, you need to sound pretty good and make sure your voice is clear and not distorted.
To join each video clip, music, and voiceover together, you’ll need software for that.
And OBS (open broadcasting software) is a free video editor that you can make use of. Another alternative is to use a free video editing software that comes installed on a Mac and used for video editing.
I use Filmora (currently filmora9 soon to be filmora10) which is great and you only have to pay $59 to use it forever.
Filmora has pre-built music along with a lot of special features that you can use in creating your video content. The software is easy to use and is drag and drop.
All you need to do is to import your pictures and videos, add them to a timeline, add your music, merge them, and export it.
Are you wondering if YouTubers make any money on YouTube without having original content?
You can check out social blade (there’s a chrome extension for social blade) and search for cats, you’ll see that people get up to 30 – 33000 a month which isn’t pretty bad.
Monetization
Now, let’s see how you can get started making money with your YouTube channel. You can get monetized through YouTube AdSense or get monetized through affiliate marketing and make more money.
If you want to be monetized through AdSense, you need to be eligible for monetization which means you have to get up to a thousand subscribers and four thousand views.
Asides from monetizing through AdSense, you could also make money with your YouTube channel through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is a type of marketing where you get paid commissions and rewarded by a business when you get more customers for them.
You enter into an affiliate partnership with a business or company, promote their products or software, and get a percentage of the sale once you make sales.
Affiliate marketing is usually win-win. You are helping someone or a company get more sales and you’re also helping the customer get good and quality products when they watch your video.
Being an affiliate marketer on YouTube, you get a regular source of money which could turn to passive income, eventually as you keep adding the videos.
The income might be slow at first but the more content you create, the more traction you get, and the more money you will be able to make.
In the long run, you’ll make a lot of money when you get monetized via affiliate marketing and AdSense. In addition to that, you can also use your videos to channel traffic to your site or blog. When you get a lot of traffic on your site, you can sell your products, services and get clients effortlessly.
Outsourcing
You can outsource every step above by going to freelancing sites to search for a freelancer(s) who’ll help you out and get paid for it. Examples of freelancing sites where you can get freelancers are Fiverr and Upwork.
To get a video editor, go to any of the freelancing sites above and search for one. Some of the things that you might want to outsource would be doing video editing and voice overs mainly.
If you would want to add audio sounds to make the video more interesting, you’ll need a video script too.
You can pay a freelancer to create the script, and another freelancer to record a voice-over of the script.
If you don’t have the money and can’t afford to outsource, you can do it yourself. But if you don’t have the time but you have the money, you can just outsource everything to freelancers.
Some freelancers usually collect between $5 and $30 for voice-overs. Video editors are slightly more expensive and it might be better to have a permanent video editor. Plus, if you need someone to create YouTube video thumbnails for you, you can also easily get a freelancer to do that for you on Fiverr.
When you find a freelancer, reach out to them and tell them you plan on doing this long term with them., they might even give you at a cheaper rate.
So, you could outsource your script, video editing, voice-over, thumbnails and all you have to do is just upload the final, finished video content to your YouTube channel.
Lest I forgot, you could also outsource your channel’s search engine optimization (SEO) for as low as $20.
Final Words
A lot of people have become self-made millionaires on YouTube but it’s also highly competitive. You need to invest a ton of time, skill, effort, and money to make a living as a YouTuber.
But you don’t always have to create original video content to make money. You can just source for interesting, popular video content, download it and remix it to a new video. This process takes creativity, efficiency, and personalization.
Globally, about five billion videos are watched every day on YouTube so making money on YouTube is no longer far-fetched. Always ensure you mimic the original content and not copy. Be original and stay true to yourself.
Also, note that only videos with the creative customs license can be remixed. The creative custom license allows YouTubers to permit somebody else to use their content. This means that another person can use your video content on YouTube once it has the license and goes along with the rules and regulations.
Remixing videos doesn’t have to be done all by yourself. Luckily, there are freelancing sites where you can get freelancers to do all the work for you.
